Barclays statements
Convert Barclays PDF statements to Excel, CSV, Xero or QuickBooks
Barclays keeps online statements as PDFs, and that’s usually what clients send. Convert them into a file for Excel, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or FreeAgent, with each statement checked against its opening and closing balances.

Getting PDF statements from Barclays
Your client has to be registered for Online Banking or the Barclays app to see statements online. Each statement opens as a PDF.
- 1In Online Banking, open the menu under the client’s name, choose My documents and messages, then My Barclays documents.
- 2Select the statement and choose Download to save the PDF.
- 3In the Barclays app, go to Help, then Statements, and open a statement to download it. Business accounts can reach statements from the home screen.
Older statements and closed accounts
Barclays keeps online statements for up to 7 years while the account is open. After an account closes, its statements stay available for up to 5 years if the client still banks with Barclays.
For anything older the client can order paper statements from Barclays. Scanned pages can be converted too, but they can’t be traced line by line, so check them against the page image.
Converting a Barclays statement
- 1Upload the PDF statements, up to 10 at a time and up to 50 pages each. If a file is password-protected you’ll be asked for the password; it’s used once and never stored.
- 2Review each statement next to its transactions. The opening balance, every transaction and the closing balance have to add up; if they don’t, the rows to check are flagged.
- 3Choose Export, then the Xero statement CSV, a QuickBooks CSV layout, Excel or OFX for Sage and FreeAgent. For OFX, enter the sort code and account number printed on the statement.
Before you rely on it
There’s no Barclays template behind this: the converter reads each statement’s layout, so it isn’t limited to layouts someone has set up in advance. That also means a Barclays statement hasn’t necessarily been tested, and results vary by layout. Convert one statement with the free pages and check that it balances before you convert a client’s whole history.
Every row links to the line of the PDF it came from, and the opening balance plus the transactions has to reach the printed closing balance. When it doesn’t, the rows to check are flagged before you export.
Client data
Files and results are deleted 24 hours after upload, or straight away if you delete them. Before uploading client statements, read the privacy notice: it names every company that processes statement data and where.
Questions
Should I download the PDF or print the statement to PDF?
Use the PDF Barclays gives you. It keeps the text, so every transaction can be traced to its line on the statement. A printed or scanned copy has to be read as an image.
Can I convert a year of Barclays statements at once?
Upload up to 10 statements at a time. Each is checked and exported separately, so one month that doesn’t balance doesn’t hold up the rest.
Is this made by Barclays?
No. BalancedPDF is an independent tool, not affiliated with Barclays. Barclays is a trademark of its owner.
