Getting statements from CommBank

Clients with online statements can open them in NetBank or the CommBank app, and save, print or email them. CommBank emails the client when a new one is available.

For a joint account, both holders need to be registered for NetBank to receive online statements.

NetBank CSV or the PDF?

NetBank exports a page or a date range of transactions, up to 600 at a time. In the new NetBank, OFX and QIF exports are no longer available; CSV still is. If your software wants OFX, the converter makes one from the PDF statement, with the BSB and account number you enter.

Statements of a closed account stay online for up to 2 years after it closes. Save them before then if the client will need them.

Converting a CommBank statement

  1. 1Upload the PDF statements, up to 10 at a time and up to 50 pages each. If a file is password-protected you’ll be asked for the password; it’s used once and never stored.
  2. 2Review each statement next to its transactions. The opening balance, every transaction and the closing balance have to add up; if they don’t, the rows to check are flagged.
  3. 3Choose Export, then the Xero statement CSV, Excel, a QuickBooks CSV layout or OFX for Xero and MYOB. For OFX, enter the BSB and account number printed on the statement.

Before you rely on it

There’s no CommBank template behind this: the converter reads each statement’s layout, so it isn’t limited to layouts someone has set up in advance. That also means a CommBank statement hasn’t necessarily been tested, and results vary by layout. Convert one statement with the free pages and check that it balances before you convert a client’s whole history.

Every row links to the line of the PDF it came from, and the opening balance plus the transactions has to reach the printed closing balance. When it doesn’t, the rows to check are flagged before you export.

Client data

Files and results are deleted 24 hours after upload, or straight away if you delete them. Before uploading client statements, read the privacy notice: it names every company that processes statement data and where.

Questions

Can I get an OFX file for MYOB from a CommBank statement?

Yes. Export OFX and enter the BSB, account number and AUD as the currency. The statement needs a closing balance for OFX.

Does it work with CommBank credit card statements?

Yes. The balance check follows the card’s direction: purchases increase what’s owed and payments reduce it.

Is this made by CommBank?

No. BalancedPDF is an independent tool, not affiliated with CommBank. CommBank is a trademark of its owner.
