Getting PDF statements from NAB

  1. 1In NAB Internet Banking, select Accounts, then Account statements.
  2. 2Choose the account and the date range, select up to 25 statements and click Download.
  3. 3In the NAB app, tap the account, then Statements, choose a statement by its closing date and tap Share to save it.

More than 2 years back

NAB’s transaction history, and the exports made from it, go back 2 years. Statements in Internet Banking go back 7. For older history, work from the PDF statements; up to 25 can be downloaded at once.

Upload them in batches of up to 10. Each one is checked and exported on its own, so one statement that doesn’t balance doesn’t hold up the rest.

Converting a NAB statement

  1. 1Upload the PDF statements, up to 10 at a time and up to 50 pages each. If a file is password-protected you’ll be asked for the password; it’s used once and never stored.
  2. 2Review each statement next to its transactions. The opening balance, every transaction and the closing balance have to add up; if they don’t, the rows to check are flagged.
  3. 3Choose Export, then the Xero statement CSV, Excel, a QuickBooks CSV layout or OFX for Xero and MYOB. For OFX, enter the BSB and account number printed on the statement.

Before you rely on it

There’s no NAB template behind this: the converter reads each statement’s layout, so it isn’t limited to layouts someone has set up in advance. That also means a NAB statement hasn’t necessarily been tested, and results vary by layout. Convert one statement with the free pages and check that it balances before you convert a client’s whole history.

Every row links to the line of the PDF it came from, and the opening balance plus the transactions has to reach the printed closing balance. When it doesn’t, the rows to check are flagged before you export.

Client data

Files and results are deleted 24 hours after upload, or straight away if you delete them. Before uploading client statements, read the privacy notice: it names every company that processes statement data and where.

Questions

Why can’t my client find older statements in the NAB app?

The app shows up to 2 years of statements. Internet Banking on a computer shows up to 7.

Can I get an OFX file for MYOB?

Yes. Export OFX and enter the BSB, account number and AUD as the currency. The statement needs a closing balance for OFX.

Is this made by NAB?

No. BalancedPDF is an independent tool, not affiliated with NAB. NAB is a trademark of its owner.
