Statements from New Zealand banks
Most clients bank with ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac or Kiwibank. A New Zealand account number has four parts: bank, branch, account and suffix. For an OFX file, enter the full account number and use the bank and branch digits at the start of it as the bank code.
There’s no list of supported banks to wait for: the converter reads each statement’s layout instead of relying on a template per bank. It’s designed for English-language PDF statements. Results vary by layout, so try one of your client’s statements with the free pages before you rely on it.
Xero in New Zealand
Xero only reads PDF bank statements for organisations in the US and Canada. Everywhere else, a PDF has to become a CSV or OFX file before Xero will import it. Export the Xero statement CSV, or OFX, and import it into the bank account with Manage account › Import a statement.
If the account also has a bank feed, import only the dates the feed is missing, so the same transaction doesn’t appear twice.
MYOB and QuickBooks Online
MYOB’s bank statement import takes OFX files. For QuickBooks Online, export the 3-column CSV with one signed amount, or the 4-column layout, and check the column matching before you accept the upload.
Client data
Files and results are deleted 24 hours after upload, or straight away if you delete them. Before uploading client statements, read the privacy notice: it names every company that processes statement data and where.
Questions
Does it work with my client’s bank?
It reads the layout of any English-language PDF statement rather than using a template per bank. Convert one statement with the free pages and see whether it balances.
What does it cost?
Prices are in US dollars: try 3 pages free as a guest or get 15 free pages with a free account, then credit packs from $9 for 60 pages or Pro at $29 a month for 400 pages.
Can I convert credit card statements?
Yes. The balance check follows the card’s direction, and OFX exports use the credit card statement format.
